Tiara, lost in tornado, replaced for pageant winner

OKLAHOMA CITY ? For some Oklahomans the May 20th Tornado was a matter of life and death. For others, it was a matter of losses large and small. NewsChannel 4 wanted to share one unique story. This one involves a pageant queen and her missing crown that the Tornado carried away. We?ve covered so many Tornado stories over the past couple of months. People losing everything they had including the loss of a young woman?s cherished possession. She lost her home and all of her belongings, but there was one thing that was replaced in a very special way. ?I was at school. I?m a first grade teacher at Tinker Elementary, and I saw on the news, on NewsChannel 4, that my house was gone. It was just a pile of wood and bricks,? Tornado Victim, Melanie Kubitscheck recants. Melanie Kubitscheck finally made it home. She and her husband began digging. Searching for anything they could salvage, but there were three things at the top of their search list. ?We looked forever. The three things we needed to find were my external hard drive, my cat, and my crown,? Kubitscheck says. They found the hard drive and a few pictures. ?I was able to find some pictures of the night I was crowned,? Kubitscheck says. They found the cat, but the crown was gone. Melanie Kubitscheck was the 2002 Miss Northern Oklahoma College in Enid. Kubitscheck says, ?We found the display case it was in, and the pillow it was on, but we never found the crown.?
