Dying to return home ? Mvillariba's Weblog

Today, my aunt Araceli Villariba Remigio, sister to my father Cesar, aka Mamang Cely went home. Our Villariba clan ?with the Remigios offer prayers for her peaceful journey home. As i wrote to grieving families, my remembering self give thanks to all the moments she made us feel her love and thoughtfulness.

As i grieve and cry, i sense her thoughts that is is a homecoming. Yes, this is her final journey and we hope it will be joyful, reuniting with Nanay Nene,Tio Mario, Tia Anita,Tio Carding, Tia Bella,Tia Lina, Tio Patty and her parents Simporiano ?Villariba and Maria Araneta whom we never met since the family was orphaned .

To comfort myself, i searched the web and found the words of Rabbi Abraham Heschel on death as seeking understanding of the meaning of life and death. He wrote that finding the meaning of life and ?death leads to ?the harvest of eternal moments achieved on earth. I find this significant because Mamang Cely sowed many good seeds while alive and now she is harvesting all these good deeds. So what is the meaning of life?

Rabbi Heschel shares these words and i quote : ? ?The meaning of Life is to reconcile liberty with service, the passing with the lasting, to weave the threads of temporality into the fabric of eternity.?

Mamang Cely, now you are Home,we thank you and ask that you keep us in your heart . ? It is your time to enjoy the harvest of eternal happiness and ?eternal love.

Navigate Urban Areas by Using a Satellite Dish to Find Your Bearings

Reddit user shufflingmulligan reports that, since most television satellites orbit around the equator, you can tell which direction is north or south by the direction that TV satellites are pointed.

It seems that not every satellite dish in every country follows this standard but in general it should be accurate enough to gather your bearings for basic urban navigation and you can always check which direction satellites should be pointed in your area if necessary. Keep in mind that any single satellite may be out of alignment so look for two or more pointed in the same direction. Photo by Paul Lucas

Dannel Malloy Calls For Gun Control After Sandy Hook - Business ...

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy on Sunday urged more steps on the federal level for stricter gun control laws in the aftermath of the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., on Friday.

Malloy called for more federal action on banning assault weapons, saying they were necessary despite the state's tough laws against obtaining an assault weapon. State laws, he said, don't go far enough and allow for loopholes.

"Connecticut has a pretty aggressive law ? probably of the 50 states I think we're ranked 4th most aggressive in trying to limit access to these kinds of weapons," Malloy said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"But what happens in the absence of a Brady bill, in the absence of federal legislation, people use descriptive terms to try to get around the limitations that are built into our statutes here in Connecticut, or might otherwise not happen if we had federal legislation on this issue. These are assault weapons. You don't hunt deer with these things."

He added:?"One can only hope we'll find a way to limit these weapons that really only have one purpose."

The federal assault weapons ban was signed into law by then-President Bill Clinton in 1994, but it was allowed to expire in 2004. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Sunday on "Meet the Press" she would introduce an assault weapons ban on the first day of Congress next January.

Northern Virginia Realtors: New Real Estate Agent? Got No Clients ...

Are you a new agent? What if you have no one to work with? What can you do?

Well, don't hang out in the office waiting for the phone to ring, it won't....
...go out and take photos and blog about neighborhoods, their schools, shopping and amenities,? their home sales and market trends, preview 3-5 properties per day, check out the new construction and visit the new home reps...

...look for other agent's open houses to hold, visit local businesses and see who might make a good partner to cross promote with your services(furniture rental, staging, appliance repair places, landscapers, upholstery shops, picture framers etc.)

...join a business to business organization or dive in to some clubs or causes that you might enjoy

...visit divorce attorneys, attend other agent's settlements, go to the real estate record room at the county courthouse.... see what is happening there.

?

?

If you don't learn learn learn .......you won't last last last in this business.

One of the most satisfying things about our profession is that it positions us to learn something new every day.
Even if you have been doing this 30 years, you will still see a different kind of HVAC, septic, or client attraction system almost daily. I never get bored. I love this business.

Even after showing a hundred 3,2,1 townhouses between $325k-$350k in the same community in 3 weeks, you can still be mentally engaged.

? The properties might be cookie cutter, but the clients are not.....they come from everywhere....all with interesting stories to tell and unique ways of thinking about real estate. Their stories of overcoming? hardship make whining about THE MARKET seem laughable.

New thing to do. Go to a foreclosure auction.

One new thing that you could do a few times, that will really add to your repertoire and spice to your water cooler conversation, is to attend a ?trustees auction at your county court house.

?You cannot become the?king or queen of septic system inspections over night, nor know all the crap that happens in the short sale process by just reading.

We learn best by going and doing. The more you have been exposed to in the real estate field, the more confidence you will have in all situations and? the greater service and protection you can provide? your clients.

So.... go to where ever your trustee or foreclosure sales are held and just watch. Go at least 2-3 times so that you understand this part of the business. It will help you get a better grasp of where REOs come from as well as what happens to that "NEVER ENDING SHORT SALE" You can Google "Legal Notices" or "Trustee or Foreclosure sales" to find out the time and place in your area.

?

?Here in Virginia trustee sales are held in front of the courthouse, outside in all weather. The attorney/auctioneer talks greased lightening so you can be out of there in ?as little as 20 minutes. The longest auction I have attended was over in 75 minutes.

On the surface you might think that this is a waste of your time. However, obtaining the knowledge of how this process works will enable you to speak intelligently about the whole distressed property arena from failed short sale, to courthouse auction to back on the street as an REO. Think of it as another form of continuing education.

?

?

?

If I was starting out today, I would join a team. Real estate licensing class prepares you for NOTHING as far as everyday client acquisition, offer writing and contract negotiation. Joning a well respected team with a leader that will actually engage and teach you will increase your odds of survival and put you on the right path.

You will soon see the ability? the?veterans have to answer weirdo phone calls or walk into what seems to be a fire storm situation and walk out without a wrinkle. You can learn to do this too. Just? position yourself to LEARN EVERYTHING.

It doesn't happen over night....but you will be pleasantly surprised at the creativity, energy, new ideas and new connections you will make by getting out and broadening your real estate horizons.

Hey...also...don't forget to write many personal notes on real paper. Notes of thanks, appreciation, and congratulations for everyday actions mean a lot to people and they will see that you are a thoughtful person who pays attention and will take care of them.

The Family: Mothers as Nurturers - Lyndon Hensleys blog - Dion ...

?Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children?

~ The Family: A Proclamation to the World

My favorite quotes?, regarding mothers:

?Motherhood is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels.? ~The First Presidency

Elder Richard G. Scott said,

??Satan had unleashed a seductive campaign to undermine the sanctity of womanhood, to deceive the daughters of God and divert them from their divine destiny. He well knows women are the compassionate, self-sacrificing, loving power that binds together the human family?.He has convinced many of the lie that they are third-class citizens in the kingdom of God. That falsehood has led some to trade their divinely given femininity for male coarseness.?

Sister Beck said,?

?Who will prepare this righteous generation of sons and daughters? Latter-day Saint women will do this ? women who know and love the Lord and bear testimony of Him, women who are strong and immovable and who do not give up during difficult and discouraging times.? This really impressed me. It also showed me the significance it is of my divine role of being a mother and nurturer.?

?There is no more noble work than that of a good and God-fearing mother.? ??but she who rears successfully a family of healthy, beautiful sons and daughters, whose influence will be felt through generations to come?deserves the highest honor that man can give, and the choicest blessings of God.? ?I think that this is an important thing for women to understand. The women of the world today are confused about their roles and are fulfilling careers and working outside the home.?

I liked President Benson?s words when he said, ?Mothers who help families pray and play together will stay together and will bless children?s lives forever.?

President Benson talked about the widows and mothers who for various reasons need to work outside the home and support themselves, and said, ?But these instances are the exception, not the rule.? I think still too often even women of the church want think that this means it is perfectly acceptable to have a career. Whereas I don?t think it is necessarily wrong, I still think a woman should be in the home raising and loving her children and ready to be at hand to them.?

To those who have not yet married or had children or who cannot have children:

Sister Sheri Dew has not had the chance to marry nor have children. She is a big example to me of a righteous sister in Zion. Side note, one of my absolute favorite books is by her called, ?No One Can Take Your Place.? Such a good read!! Back to motherhood here are some of her words:

?both God the Father and Adam called Eve ?the mother of all living? ? and they did so before she ever bore a child?.It is the essence of who were are as women. It defines our very identity, our divine stature and nature, and the unique traits our Father gave us.??

?Every one of us can show by word and by deed that the work of women in the Lord?s kingdom is magnificent and holy. I repeat: We are all mothers in Israel, and our calling is to love and help lead the rising generation through the dangerous streets of mortality.??

Make The Web Work For You With Internet Promotion - First

Even people who are somewhat technologically challenged have made their businesses thrive, so don?t think you can?t do it! The following article will give you the information you need to become a successful Internet marketer.

Offering your customers who spend a lot of money on your website additional discounts. This can be a highly effective website marketing strategy. An example of this would be to offer them 10 percent off orders of $200 or more. This is one of the best methods to encourage people to purchase more of your products.

Web marketing campaigns should encourage growth of this strategy. The idea is so simple that it seems somewhat bizarre. Simply put, you want to develop a platform where a sequence of events happen repeatedly; customers search and locate your business, purchase your products and then repeat the process.

TIP! To earn more cash you need additional subscribers. Use a split test to determine which of two marketing strategies is more successful.

Keeping up with your competition is another important aspect of Online marketing. Investigate what your competitors are doing, and assess both the strengths and weaknesses of their strategies. You could learn a few things from your competitors. This can give you insight as to what to do, and what not to do.

To increase your ad clicks, place an image on your page that, when clicked, leads to a page that describes the item you are advertising or selling. Use matching text from the articles and put it at the start and finish. When done right, your visitor will not see an ad, just clickable text.

Unless your customers trust you, you will not be successful. Misleading customers with false advertising is extremely bad for business. Promote your products using only factual testimonials and statistics.

TIP! Make it your personal responsibility to resolve customer complaints. It is better to take care of delicate situations on your own.

?Fast? is a very powerful word in marketing. Customers value speedy service, which is why you want to ensure that your products are delivered quickly.

To be truly successful with Online marketing, you have to be original. Not only is unique content more effective with site visitors, but it also ranks better in search results. Figure out how to produce content unique to you.

Add a squeeze page to your site to build your contact base. It encourages visitors to share their email address. You might want to offer a free promotional item in return for contact information. This way you get more people on your mailing list and they get a free item.

TIP! Inspire confidence in your products by offering a guarantee that you will return a customer?s money if they are not satisfied. Your customers will feel more confident about doing business with you when you offer such a guarantee.

Offer a free gift with purchase ? this is a great way of making your customers feel like they are valued. Many marketing methods ignore the importance of respect and pampering customers. Small gifts will cost a bit more, but will attract loyal customers that make your business more sustainable, ultimately.

Discover the proper use of HTML tags. Tags are used to emphasize certain content and make it stand out from the rest of the text. Your website will get its search engine ranking according to what information these tags give the search engine spiders. Be sure to emphasize the important keywords.

TIP! Emailing clients is a very important part in any Internet marketing endeavor. Your ideas should be well guarded.

The database that utilizes customer relationship management software ensures that your Web marketing strategies are more successful. This database readily identifies previous and current customers, as well as all their purchase history. These customers can further be targeted by tailoring personal correspondence that promotes products that accessorize or complement those that they?ve already purchased.

One unique approach to affiliate marketing is through image searches. By adding relevant images in your site, you can easily raise the attention you get by gaining much more exposure. As individuals browse around for what they?re looking for, they might just come across your business. This will make people familiar with your company and they may just keep coming back!

One option is to ?bundle? merchandise?combine similar items for a single, discounted selling price. Make sure that the terms of what you?re offering are clearly stated and easy to find.

TIP! Provide customers with a time-sensitive incentive to place an order. Some examples of limited-time offers include discounts to the first 500 customers or free shipping for people who order within the next week.

Understanding your competition is a key to successful Website marketing. Familiarity with the products of your competitor and good marketing skills equal success for you and will leave your competitor watching gape-jawed as you successfully and profitably win the day. This becomes key when it comes to Affiliate marketing.

Add a chat feature to your Internet business website to encourage your customers to converse. This way, it will feel more like a club, or a group, rather than just a place that they can buy things. People are naturally drawn to others with shared interests, which makes them highly likely to bond and connect with your business.

Send your free materials to various free online directories so you get some valuable advertising at no charge. Several directories, for example, have free e-zines. There are several directories for e-books, dictionaries, and other helpful materials.

TIP! If you are using emails regularly then always strive to include useful links and information, instead of sending the same type of email over and over. If you information is redundant you will likely bore your customers instead of encouraging them to purchase products.

Order checkout pages should include special deals. You could add about anything enticing here, from a buy-one, get-one deal to a certain percentage of savings on a bundle of items. Your customer will think that he is receiving extra value and you can have higher sales while moving older products.

If you have a place on your site people can comment, it might help you market your products. If customers review your niche on your site, this will drum up new sales and also increase your Internet presence with more keywords.

Don?t be afraid to get started. You can learn from your experience as you go along. This information will help you to get on the right path to success.

TIP! You might want to offer a subscription service that customers can use when purchasing items on your site. If there is a way to offer a monthly supply of your product, a subscription is a great way to keep them coming back for more.

Digital Library Digest: December 11, 2012

?The Folger Shakespeare Library launches collection of digital texts, free plays and code

?Much ado about something:?William Shakespeare?has gone digital in a big way.

?The Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world?s largest collection of Shakespeare materials, launched the Folger Digital Texts on Thursday. It?s a set of authoritative Shakespeare plays available for free ? along with the source code. Noncommercial app builders, scholars and others can use the code to build their own Shakespeare-oriented projects.

?That?s pretty cool. The plays, of course, are in the public domain and have been available online for a long time. But the code makes things easier. The possibilities are vast: There might soon be a new generation of free Shakespeare-based games, or interactive stories, or literary mash-ups.

?But I?ll make a plea: no zombies, OK guys?

?The?plays?included in the debut of the Folger Digital Texts are some of Shakespeare?s greatest hits: ?Hamlet,? ?Romeo and Juliet,? ?King Lear,? ?Macbeth,? ?Othello,? ?The Merchant of Venice,? ?The Taming of the Shrew,? ?The Tempest,? ?Twelfth Night,? ?Much Ado About Nothing? and ?A Midsummer Night?s Dream.?

?The others, along with Shakespeare?s poetry, will be added in 2013.

?A news release from the?Folger Library explains, ?Users can read the plays online, download PDFs for offline reading,?search for keywords within a single play or the whole corpus, and navigate by act, scene, line, or the new Folger throughline numbers. Every word, space, and piece of punctuation has its own place online?.?The full source code of the texts may be downloaded by researchers and developers at no cost for noncommercial use ? a major time-saver for scholarly research, app development, and other projects. By sharing the coded text, the Folger hopes to significantly advance digital humanities research into the works of Shakespeare and other writers of his time.?

?The digital texts share pagination with the Folger Shakespeare Library print editions, which are widely used in American classrooms. So if you really want to make a ?Romeo and Juliet and Zombies? for your ninth-grade English class, well, I guess I?m OK with that.?

Smithsonian American Art Museum and the University of Southern California to partner and create digital art records and tools for any museum?s database

?WASHINGTON ? The Smithsonian American Art Museum is partnering with researchers from the University of Southern California?s Information Sciences Institute to make digital art records more easily searchable with the latest technology.

?Records of more than 40,000 artworks at the museum will be connected to a digital library through the project.

?The records will be converted to linked open data, a system that publishes information online with more precise tagging than current web publishing formats. USC says that will provide easier access to information on the museum?s holdings.

?Officials at the college say the tools developed for the project will work with any museum?s databases and will be made available for free to other museums. As more museums convert to the new system, users can search for art information across many websites.?

From an Associated Press article in The Washington Post,?Smithsonian joins USC in effort to make digital museum art records more accessible, searchable

Lontar scanning project for the?Internet Archive Foundation?s Digital Library strengthens the preservation of Balinese culture in the face of Westernization

?The central government needs to continue an important project preserving ancient lontar manuscripts after the San Francisco-based Internet Archive Foundation suspended funding of the lontar digitizing project, which ran from January 2011 to the middle of 2012.

?Ketut Suastika, head of Bali Cultural Office, told The Jakarta Post/Bali Daily that the province would propose funding of Rp 1.5 billion (US$155,700) from the 2013 state budget to continue the lontar digitizing project, which had to be halted as the funding agency refused to continue supporting the project.

?The central government must support this significant cultural project in order to preserve Bali?s most precious cultural and literary heritage.

?We had support from an American foundation for the first stage of the project, now it is high time the Indonesian government took over the project,? Suastika stated.

?Led by Ron Jenkins, professor of theater at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and Prof. Nyoman Catra and Made Dewadharma from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar, the team dealt with more than 3,000 lontar manuscripts stored in the library of the Bali Cultural Office in Denpasar.

?We [the team] were grateful for the invaluable support of Ketut Suastika and the staff of the Balinese Cultural Office. We were also grateful for the support of the Internet Archive Foundation of San Francisco, whose founder, Brewster Kahle, has the goal of digitizing all the books in the world,? Jenkins told the Post via email.

?The wisdom contained in the lontar is essential for Balinese culture to maintain its integrity in the face of Westernization.

?That is why we worked so hard in this lontar project to digitize thousands of lontar palm leaf manuscripts on subjects as diverse as religious philosophy, traditional medicine, ritual offerings, historic events and literature,? Jenkins added.

?The digitizing and preservation of the first stage of the lontar project was started in January 2011 ? cleaning, preserving, transcribing and uploading the lontar into the Internet Archive Foundation?s Digital Library.

?As of now anyone can go to the website at?archive.org where they can find images of more than two thousand lontar.?

eBooks For Libraries website aims to educate the public about current issues?surrounding?libraries? access to ebooks

??eBooks For Libraries web site, sponsored by Library Renewal and the?Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library?in Kansas, has relaunched and will now provide public awareness and news about ebooks for libraries.

?David Lee King writes,??Our goal isn?t to complain, but to share information about the current ebook landscape, and how it affects libraries. We?ll explain current issues, and what they actually MEAN for libraries.?

?Earlier this year, eBooks For Libraries?began a petition drive?asking the Big 6 publishers to make more ebooks available.

?The petition received more than 10,000 signatures and was sent to publishers at the end of June.

?According to Gina Millsap, Chief Executive Officer of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, the petition received little response from the publishers.

?Skip Dye at Random House and Josh Marwell at HarperCollins did send ?cordial? acknowledgements after Millsap contacted the leadership at each publisher with a personal note. That was about it.

?Millsap also shared this with infoDOCKET:

?Our goal was and is to raise awareness of library users as readers, who want to get stories and information in all forms from their local libraries. We don?t want the importance of readers and reading to get lost in all the issues and angst swirling around in the ebook universe. We also want to provide a one-stop source for librarians, trustees, customers and library advocates to find out what?s going on with ebooks and libraries.? ?

Amherst College to start open-access scholarly ebook press

?A new digital initiative from Amherst College will publish and give away peer-reviewed scholarly ebooks (and printable online versions too).

?We will be the first university or college press to publish books solely under an open-access model,? said Amherst College Librarian Bryn Geffert in a statement.

?Digital publishing continually reshapes what books are, what publishers do, and how content is distributed:?book agents now use e-tailers? conversion and distribution services?and independent authors sell ebooks directly to consumers (on occasion to great acclaim). So it?s not surprising that scholarly content producers are finding creative ways to bypass conventional publishers too. Especially considering that an academic title, hardcover or ebook, can sell for well over $100, and authors commonly spend more than they earn to get their work published.

?Amherst College Press anticipates filling an unmet need as well. ?There are not as many online venues for high-quality writing and scholarship in the humanities as there are in the sciences?.Our open-access press will place Amherst at the forefront of a movement that we hope will be embraced by leading scholars in the humanities,? said Amherst College president, Carolyn ?Biddy? Martin in the statement.

?Other publishers and organizations have keyed-in on the need for reputable, open-access digital scholarly publishing as well. This past summer Springer Science + Business Media grew SpringerOpen, its open-access offerings, to include books. And, the Public Knowledge Project makes its?Open Monograph Press?software available at no cost ?to assist university presses, learned societies, and scholar-publishers interested in publishing scholarly books in print-on-demand and multiple electronic formats, whether on an open access or purchase basis.?

?Amherst College Press aims to begin accepting manuscripts for review by summer 2013.?
